Customized Prevention Assistance

Requested AOD prevention TA services are customized to meet the organizations' needs.

Specialized technical assistance specific to a particular group's needs is available by submitting a TA APPLICATION FORM to EMT. The purpose of customized TA is to strengthen local community AOD prevention efforts and to build the capacity of the requesting organization to do work in AOD prevention. EMT and the organization work together to define the organization's needs and determine what kind of training or other service would meet those needs best. A sample of the available topic areas includes:

  • Overview of Prevention Strategies
  • Community-based Environmental Strategies, such as:
    • Community organizing
    • Coalition building
    • AOD policy development
    • Modifying city/county zoning ordinances
    • Media advocacy
    • Responsible beverage service
  • School-based Strategies, such as:
    • Risk and protective factor-related strategies
    • AOD policy development
    • Student assistance programs
    • Peer-led program models
    • Conflict resolution
    • Program evaluation
    • Harm reduction
    • Prevention strategies for college and university campuses
  • Program development, planning and evaluation, such as:
    • Strategic planning assistance
    • Board development
    • Needs assessments
    • Program evaluation
    • Volunteer program development
  • Development of culturally-appropriate program services and materials

Who provides the services?
EMT currently works with approximately 150 expert consultants with experience in AOD prevention. Many of our consultants are recognized as top names in the field. In order to ensure that quality services are provided, each consultant undergoes an application process and a probationary period before being approved by EMT and the State for full membership in the TA consultant pool.

Areas of available consultant expertise are as broad as the nature and topics of TA requests we receive! If an organization has already identified a consultant with whom they would like to work, EMT will try very hard to accommodate that request.
